She notes the worst moment for her patients is when they discover they are the masters of their own fate, captains of their own ship. They cannot blame others or bad luck. They are not victims. They are responsible for their attitudes towards the world.

You decide how you spend your resources: time and money. You decide who you want to spend time with and how you spend that time. You decide whether spending money on X is really worthwhile.
